Avening Parish Council
Welcome to the Avening Parish Council website The Medieval Village of Avening, is located a couple of miles from Tetbury, (the unofficial Royal Town of the Cotswolds) and grew around the Norman Church of the Holy Rood (or Holy Cross). The Church, which was built on the site of an earlier Saxon Church, is said to have been built in 1080 and the only church ever to be built by a Queen of England. The population of Avening is around 1000, it being the largest village in the South of the Cotswolds. It has a village hall, social club, two public houses, and a local primary school. It has an active village community with a monthly magazine called The Villager. There is a golf club on the edge of the village.

The public are welcome at our meetings
We meet on the third Thursday every month  at 7.30 in the Memorial Hall.  Check our Minutes pages to see the types of things we discuss, and also the agenda for the next meeting.
Welcome, Gerald South

Lunch at the Trouble House 1.00 pm Walk the Cherington bounds anticlockwise 5.00 pm Evening prayers at St Nicholas Cherington I would be very pleased to have some company for all or some of these parts of the day. By then I shall be rather thirsty and will be in the Bell at about 7.30 pm - again I would be delighted to be joined by others. For further details please give me a ring – 01453 834884 Gerald South

Jim Parsons
We regret to advise that Jim Parsons recently passed away - it cannot be overstated what Jim Parsons did for Avening over many decades of loyal service as a long serving District Councillor, Parish Councillor and chairman, and member of a plethora of other committees - he always fought to get good deals for the village and wider the community.
